Rockland’s First Electronics Detection Dog Visits Elementary School
By Y.M. Lowy
Students at a local elementary school got a firsthand look at one of Rockland County’s most unique dogs, Remy.
Remy is Rockland’s first Certified Electronics Detection Dog, specially trained to sniff out the chemical compounds found in electronic devices. Her skills allow her to locate hidden items such as laptops, phones, SD cards, and USB drives, which are critical evidence in cases where suspects try to hide digital material.
During the visit, Remy quickly found electronics hidden out of sight, leaving students amazed at her powerful sense of smell.
Remy also carries a name of honor. She was named after Welles Remy Crowther, the Rockland County resident remembered as the “Man in the Red Bandana” for saving lives during the September 11th attacks.
