Rockland County Emergency Management Monitors Hurricane Erin
By Idy Perl
Rockland County's Emergency Management Division is closely monitoring Hurricane Erin, which is currently in the Atlantic Ocean and not expected to make a landfall.
Forecasts expect the storm to curve northward and then northeastward into colder Atlantic waters, keeping it well offshore of the U.S. East Coast.
However, the hurricane will likely cause dangerous rip currents and tides along the New York shore, especially in Long Island, later this week and into next week. There is also a risk of coastal flooding and beach erosion.
Although Erin is currently expected to stay off shore, the storm can quickly shift and change course. Residents are urged to follow forecast updates and remain up to date with the latest conditions.
