Rockland County Commemorates 23rd Anniversary of 9/11

Rockland County will be commemorating the 23rd anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks with various events scheduled throughout the day today.
Early this morning, elected officials, family members, clergy, first responders, and others marked the 9/11 at Haverstraw Bay County Park. As part of the commemoration, family members read the names of the Rockland County victims, followed by a tolling of the bell and a moment of silent prayer at 8:46 a.m. in remembrance of the attack on the North Tower of the World Trade Center, and again at 9:03 a.m. in memory of the attack on the South Tower. Five more bells then tolled in remembrance of the attack on the Pentagon, the collapse of the South Tower, the crash of Flight 93 into Shanksville, Pennsylvania, the collapse of the North Tower, and the World Trade Center bombing in 1993.
At 6PM tonight, Town Supervisor Michael Specht and the Town Board will be holding a rememberance ceremony at the Town of Ramapo building at 237 Rt 59 in Suffern.
Village of Nyack is remembering local heroes who perished on 9/11 at 6:30PM in Memorial Park on the Hudson, where the community will gather reflect and honor their memory.
