RJA Meets with Senate Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins
By Idy Perl
The Rockland Jewish Alliance was one of the groups with which Senate Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins met with during her visit to Rockland County yesterday.
“As a community, we appreciate you being here, and we appreciate everything you’ve done for us in the past,” activist Yehudah Zorger told Stewart-Cousins.
Zorger went on to admit that the Jewish community in Rockland does not always feel supported by the state government and politicians, and he wishes we would get the same support that other minority groups receive.
The RJA discussed education, as well as the budget for Jewish schools and the state’s attitude towards school choice. Yehudah expressed how it often doesn’t feel like the state is protecting and fighting for our choices, and hopes to see more positive change in that regard.
RJA also discussed the harm of social media hate, particularly in Rockland County, where locals are frequently targeted with hateful comments and harassment online.
The Majority Leader pledged to stand firm in supporting all Jewish and local community concerns, ensuring that New York remains a place where everyone is treated with the utmost respect. She also expressed her intention to return to the area and follow up with the Rockland Jewish Alliance on the issues discussed.
The RJA thanked Elijah Reichlin-Melnick for bringing the Majority Leader to Ramapo and for his dedication to the community. They praised Reichlin-Melnick for his proactive efforts in supporting the well-being of local students and for his commitment to securing funding and initiatives that benefit our children’s education.
