National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

By Y.M. Lowy

National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day is celebrated annually on January 9 and is our chance to tip our hats to the men and women in blue who keep our streets safe.

Law enforcement officers are the unsung heroes of our communities, facing daily challenges with courage and dedication. From managing high-speed chases to diffusing tense situations, their commitment ensures our safety and upholds the rule of law.

In recognition of National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, Governor Kathy Hochul directed New York State landmarks to be lit dark blue today.

“Public safety is my number one priority, and I’m incredibly grateful for the sacrifices law enforcement make to protect our communities,” Governor Hochul said. “New York stands with law enforcement — today and every day — and I am committed to doing everything I can to support their courageous efforts.”

A simple “thank you” can go a long way to show appreciation. So, let’s give a shout-out to those who patrol our streets with unwavering dedication.
