Lawler Fights To Release Spring Valley Teen Detained By ICE
By Idy Perl
Congressman Mike Lawler is celebrating the release of a Spring Valley student, Alan Junior Pierre, who was detained by ICE in early June.
Pierre, 20, is a refugee from Haiti who arrived to the U.S. through the CBP One Program, which is a program that allows migrants without proper documentation to schedule appointments at ports of entry into the U.S. and receive permits to stay. Pierre received authorization to remain in the U.S. until January 2026 and was living with his father, who is an American citizen and has also filed a “Petition for Alien Relative”, or a green card, on behalf of his son. Pierre, who is a student at the Spring Valley High school, would also be eligible for special immigrant juvenile status, since he is a full-time student and under 21 years old.
Despite these factors, Pierre was detained by ICE on June 3rd after a routine appointment at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services application support center, and taken to a detention center in New Jersey.
His family reached out to Congressman Mike Lawler's office, which sprang into action and coordinated with the Department of Homeland Security to secure his release.
“I’m grateful for the Department of Homeland Security and Secretary Noem for working with me to release Alan Junior Pierre, pending his parole claim being adjudicated," Congressman Mike Lawler said. "My office and I will continue to work closely with Alan and his family throughout the immigration process, as we have with families throughout the Haitian community and across my district."
