Governor Hochul Announces $1.64 Million for Rockland County 911 Upgrade

By Y.M. Lowy

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that $85 million in grants will be distributed to counties outside New York City to prepare for Next Generation 911, a digital system set to replace the state’s current analog 911 infrastructure.

All eligible counties will receive at least $1 million, with additional funding allocated based on population. Rockland County is set to receive $1,639,396 to support its primary Public Safety Answering Points and backup centers. The funds will be used for call-handling equipment, software applications, and interfaces necessary to process emergency incidents in accordance with national standards.

“Public safety is my number one priority, and that means ensuring that we have the technology and equipment in place to support our first responders and their quick response to emergency situations,” Governor Hochul said. “These investments will ensure that our 911 systems are operating effectively and efficiently when any New Yorker reaches out for emergency assistance in their time of need.”

Earlier this year, the state awarded $55 million to enhance emergency communications, including $10 million under the Public Safety Answering Point Grant Program, which helped develop Next Generation 911 technologies and the Geographic Information System data required for the upgrade.
