Congressman Mike Lawler Announces Major IVF Affordability Plan

By Akivah W.

Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) held a press conference at Montefiore Nyack Hospital to unveil the IVF Access and Affordability Act, a federal initiative aimed at making fertility treatments more accessible and affordable for Hudson Valley families.

The legislation establishes a tax credit of up to $20,000 for individuals and $40,000 for couples, designed to offset the high costs of reproductive medicine, including in IVF and related services.

Lawler was joined by hospital and healthcare leaders, including Dr. Mark Geller, President & CEO of Montefiore Nyack Hospital, Chanie Sternberg, President & CEO of RefuahHealth, Dr. Maria Emerson, Director of OB-GYN at Montefiore Nyack Hospital, and Paul Adler, Chairman of Montefiore Nyack Hospital Foundation.

“I hope that families overcome the financial barriers that stand between them and the dream of having a child together,” Lawler said. “These efforts reaffirm a simple truth: supporting families means supporting every path people take to build their home.” He also emphasized his support for the legislation that would require insurance companies to cover IVF treatments, further reducing financial hurdles for couples and individuals seeking reproductive care.

Families who have utilized IVF and other fertility treatments were also present to share their experiences and thank Lawler for his continued support on such important life matters.
