By Rockland Daily Staff

We regret to inform you of the passing of R' Shmiel Spitzer, a beloved and well-known figure, who passed away this afternoon at age 78.

Despite being blind and facing difficulties with walking, R' Shmiel worked tirelessly over the years to put bread on his table. His condition never held him back from continuing to smile and lift up others' spirits.

He was a beloved presence, always seen at the entrance of the Satmar Shul on Rodney Street, selling seforim and other religious items while warmly welcoming everyone.

In recent years, due to his wife’s health condition, R' Shmiel relocated to Monsey. There, he continued to navigate life with unwavering cheerfulness, inspiring all who met him.

Unfortunately, he had been suffering from illness and passed away this afternoon.

The Levaye will take place this evening at 7pm at the Satmar Shul on 1 Monsey Blvd. Kevurah will be in Har Shulem.
