Assemblymember Aron Wieder Secures $10,000 Grant for Tomchei Shabbos of Rockland County
New York State Assemblymember Aron Wieder (D-District 97) has successfully secured a $10,000 state grant for Tomchei Shabbos of Rockland County, a vital nonprofit organization dedicated to providing emergency food assistance to families in need throughout Rockland County.
The funds will be used to support programs that provide humanitarian assistance to a diverse community residing in Rockland County. These programs deliver emergency food assistance to approximately 550 families weekly. Recipients include widows, orphans, elderly individuals, single mothers, singles, and families struggling with medical crises, utility shut-offs, low income, or sudden unemployment.
The current difficult economic situation and higher food costs have left many families facing financial distress, and they are turning to Tomchei Shabbos for help.
Tomchei Shabbos of Rockland County operates discreetly to preserve recipients' dignity, ensuring families can observe Shabbos and holidays with essential meals, including chicken, challah, fish, grape juice, and fresh produce.
Assemblymember Wieder, a longtime resident of Rockland County and former County Legislator, has long championed community needs, fiscal responsibility, and support for local nonprofits. Since taking office in the State Assembly in January 2025, he continues to advocate for resources that address food insecurity and economic challenges in District 97.
"This grant will directly help hundreds of families put food on the table during tough times," said Assemblymember Wieder. "Tomchei Shabbos performs invaluable work with compassion and efficiency, and I'm proud to support their efforts to aid our neighbors in need."
